A seamless integration between Payconiq and SAP ERP at VIGO

Placing the customer experience at the core of their offering, VIGO seeks to offer patients every possible option when it comes to tailoring orthopaedic solutions to their needs – including the buying process. With this goal in mind, they set out to link up Payconiq with its SAP ERP to enable a new payment method – with Flexso as integrator.

Tailored medical solutions – and payment options

Partnering up with Flexso for this integration was an easy choice, as our team previously helped the technical orthotic company develop its iVIGO app. Through this fully integrated online/offline application, healthcare providers can intuitively customise the technical aspects of products to the needs of their patients and pass part of the costs directly through to the patient.

“We wanted to take this customer-centric model a step further by enabling patients to pay using their smartphones via Payconiq”, asserts Dries Verbruggen, IT manager at VIGO. Payconiq is a popular mobile money transfer option offered in stores and between people, and an easy way to offer mobile payment without having to furnish highly expensive mobile card terminals to our health care industry partners.”

Seamless integration through technical prowess

During this project, the Flexso team was responsible for enabling Payconiq payments right from the iVIGO application. To realise this, we integrated SAP ERP with the Payconiq Payment APIs by implementing enhancement points in SAP ERP (in ABAP) that were connected to public Payconiq REST APIs through SAP Process Orchestration, the on-premise SAP integration middleware already in use at VIGO.

SAP Process Orchestration had been previously installed by Flexso at VIGO to facilitate other SAP integration requirements, and is responsible for “translating” the Payconiq “language” into SAP-specific terms, such as SAP transactions, tables and ABAP. The fact that SAP Process Orchestration was already available in VIGO’s landscape was an important accelerator for this project. VIGO now reaps the benefits of quick and efficient integration of external API services into its SAP architecture.

Thanks to our experience integrating our SAP environment with external services combined with several years of history working with Flexso, the project went really smoothly

Hassle-free contactless payments, delighted customers

Post integration, the iVIGO app now offers an extra possibility for customers to choose to pay using Payconiq – in addition to the existing options of bank transfer, Bancontact and cash.

When they select this option, a QR code is requested from the Payconiq server through the backend system and then displayed in the iVIGO application. Once the payment has been approved, an immediate confirmation is sent from the backend system to the iVIGO application and the customer. Alternatively, the QR code can be printed onto customers’ invoices to be paid upon receipt via post.

A project with benefits for all parties

Dries and his team have collaborated with us since 2013 and are convinced of the way we work. “Their capable consultants know our company, which is a big advantage. They have the right knowledge and experience – but also a good philosophy of bringing in new people and training them in our environment, ensuring that we have expertise available when we need it.

“It’s a simple win-win”, Dries concludes. “We get paid faster, and our customers are happy.”
